North American Vasa 2011

This race is near Traverse City, Michigan. The 50km race is offered in skate or classic. This year it could be on new snow. The current NOAA forecast is :

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Friday: Snow showers likely after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 25. Wind chill values as low as zero. Calm wind becoming southwest between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Friday Night: Snow showers. Low around 22. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Saturday: A 50 percent chance of snow after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. West wind between 10 and 15 mph.

Looks like the start time temp is around 25F (-4C).

So, it is one of those if it does this, then here is the wax; if it does that, then the wax is different.

If I were to wax and travel and I was prepping my skis now here is what I would do.

Skis: A medium flex with a new snow grind (old ZR1 might be good).

Solda Glide Wax: Start with Solda UF7 and Performance Red mixed 50/50. Then, if it is snowing, Solda F31 Pink. Top coat with Solda Fluor 100. If it looks like it will not snow until later in the day and it is cloudy, go with F40 Orange Special or F31 Orange and top with Solda HP04.

Kick wax: Those of you on the ground will test and decide. My guess is a Blue Swix, Maybe VR40. Rode Weiss or Blue. Test and adjust.

Have a good race and see you at the Birkie.
